Although only God knows the exact importance of networking versus other tactics of landing a job, a search of recently conducted studies and conversations with career counselors led Dr. Clark to conclude that even with the advent of social media tools, more than two-thirds of the jobs are obtained by networking. Approximately 10% are landed by using headhunters and employment services. Roughly 9% are acquired by answering advertisements. About 3% are gained from mass snail and electronic mailings to human resources and other departments. Around 2% are arrived at by posting resumes on the Internet. Roughly 1% of the jobs are realized by some other means such as riding elevators in high-rise buildings and handing out resumes.
